Mom and I have been talking about going to Europe for over a year but, you know, things... My other trips, her knee, moving. But the time is nigh! We originally planned to go to Germany for no reason other than I said 'how about Germany' with zero thought. It just sounded like a good idea. Well, it wasn't a good idea. We are going in the fall. Sept/Oct is Octoberfest. Octoberfest is crazy, busy, expensive. Our friend Cathy bought us a Lonely Planet Germany book. I tried to find where to go to avoid Octoberfest but it was too overwhelming to contemplate. Germany is a big country with lots of cool towns. I just could not get my head around a plan. Germany was not speaking to me.
Then I had another thought! Budapest (I may have been watching FBI International).
Toss in a couple of other places. I envisioned a circle, Budapest, Zagreb, Vienna. Merrily taking trains all of the way. I called Mom as she was moving and asked what she thought. Probably holding a box and directing movers, she said 'sure, whatever'. I may be paraphrasing.
Once she put that box down, and could actually think about it, she was on board with my new, zero thought plan! Anyway, planning a trip around Budapest was way better. For whatever reason, that sparked me to action. Mom even suggested we could tuck in a river cruise up (or down) the Danube. How awesome would that be. She also suggested we add Prague. Umm, yea! That may knock off Zagreb but Croatia can be a different trip.
Yesterday, I pulled the plug and bought two tickets to Budapest. So, we are going. Now, I just have to figure out what we are doing there.
But first, I have to go to Newfoundland in May.
